Sunday: Hold your horses!

I wasn’t planning on a seventh draft.  I do enjoy the process of writing this novel, but also feel a sense of urgency over finishing it, so I think I’ve been rushing each step just a little bit.

I started reading I’d know you anywhere by Laura Lippman (it’s great!)  All of the chapters feel complete and end in a way that makes me continue to read, so that my bookmark always falls mid-chapter.

What my book seems to be lacking is a similar sense of direction.  So I’ve come up with a new method for this draft.  For each chapter, I’m going to ask myself three things:

1. What’s it about

2. What’s the point

3. What do I want people to feel

  1. That is a great list. I keep on meaning to have one when I do a read through. Maybe I will be able to put one together for the next one.

    Good luck!

  2. The best part of this is that you are the one asking yourself those questions. So just in case an agent asks you or somebody else, you will be ready, and your novel will be as well. 😀
