Wednesday: My first chapter, for the 412th time

This is the part of my book that’s been edited the most. All along I’ve been thinking that this is the best part of my book, but actually it’s probably the worst. I’ve changed it so many times, piecing together journal entries with notes from neuroscience classes. Now it feels like a patching together of grafted parts, and not in a good way.

So, per my editor, I’m taking out the first three paragraphs.  They are over-written, in an attempt to make myself sound like a good writer.  I think this is the right move.  I only wish I had done it last week, before my querying push.

  1. Don’t worry too much about the queries that were already sent. It’s done, and lets cross fingers to hear some positive news.
I think a lot of writers over write their first chapter, but what can we do? 🙂
