Saturday: Things I won’t do until I’ve published my novel

I realize that I might be waiting a long time, but I’ve got a whole list.

1: I will not buy a plastic tray to put under the dish drying rack.

I don’t know if you can see it in the picture, but that cow mug is sitting in a puddle of water that is at least several millimeters deep. Why? Because buying a plastic tray to put under the dish drying rack is one of those things that I will not do until I have published my novel.

It’s not a punishment/reward thing. I hope that I’ll have other ways to celebrate my novel being in print than a trip to Bed Bath and Beyond.

It’s just that not having a proper dish-drying set-up feels congruent with my current state of limbo. Consider it this way: do you buy furniture for the rooms that you stay in at hotels? I didn’t think so.

Anyway, I don’t mind living without a plastic tray. I’ve gotten used to the water. Even my cat has learned not to jump on that side of the counter.
