Monday: A certain aesthetic?

My fellow MFAers roll their eyes when I ask them if they’ve read Twilight.  Not good writing, they say.  I’m not sure if this is true?  I read it before I had any learned knowledge about what makes a piece of writing good.

I think what makes me like something has a lot to do with aesthetic.  The Fringe?  I don’t think it’s necessarily a ground breaking show, but the quiet dialogue, dimly lit living spaces and Harvard laboratory almost made me want to move to Boston, and I can’t say that I haven’t considered Seattle.

But what I’m talking about goes beyond setting, I think.  Is aesthetic the right word for what I am trying to identify?  Or is it just that I gravitate towards fictional characters whose lives I’d like to have?
